"There are numerous baseless rumors and reports published in the newspapers and on the Internet referring to the alleged risks of cyanide. The fear of cyanide was constantly fed by historical sources and has been used to generate a negative reaction of the public opinion towards mining, although this technology has been used for over a century in hundreds of mines.” - Terry I. Mudder

Terry Mudder, Reputed American chemist with over 30 years of experience in cyanide use, has taken part in more than 200 mining and industrial projects on six continents. He is considered the world’s No. 1 expert in the use of cyanide.

IGIE Report: The Independent Group of International Experts (IGIE), reuniting experts from Hungary, Germany, Sweden and Romania, has been founded at the request of the Hungarian and Romanian governments, to review the Environment Impact Assessment Study. The IGIE conclusions summary, published in November 2006, focuses primarily on the mining project’s transboundary effects. The experts concluded that it is reasonable that the proposed project can be discussed and evaluated by the authorities.

Water Paper: „Regardless of the conditions, the risk of an accident is extremely small. The scale of toxic discharge of a plausible accident is limited and temporary. In all cases, these safe conditions are re-established hundreds of kilometers before the discharged water reaches the Hungarian border. The very low risk of accidents and the definite environmental benefits of the clean-up combine to suggest an overall beneficial environmental outcome from the project."

O’Hara Report: In December 2004, General Rapporteur on the Cultural Heritage of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, British MP Eddie O’Hara, wrote in his information report The RMGC project would appear to provide an economic basis for sustainable development of the whole area with positive benefits on environmental and social as well as cultural grounds. From the cultural heritage point of view it might be seen as an exemplary project of responsible development. The funds currently made available by RMGC for research (archaeological, ethnological, architectural) are many times what could be expected from the Government.”

NGI Report: The Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) conducted a hazard analysis to estimate the probability of non-performance of the Corna Dam in the Tailings Management Facility (TMF) at Roşia Montană. The analyses looked at critical scenarios, including all potential modes of non-performance for the Corna dam under extreme triggers such as a rare, unusually strong earthquake and extreme rainfall in a 24-hour period. The conclusion included in the study published in April 2009 was clear: as it was designed, the dam will be one of the safest in the world.

Processing and leaching alternatives: There are a number of flowsheet options available for the processing of auriferous ores, applicable depending on ore characteristics, location, environmental, social issues, infrastructure, economic considerations and risk. The selection of the most suitable processing option involves the analysis of a large number of alternatives.

The University of Alba Iulia Report: The University "1 Decembrie 1918" of Alba Iulia completed in 2007 a study on the economic and social impact of the mining project on the region. The study concludes: „The mining project does not contradict other projects of economic development but, on the contrary, it could act as a catalist for such projects.”
