From the cultural heritage point of view it might be seen as an exemplary project of responsible development.”

The Independent Group of International Experts from Hungary, Germany, Sweden and Romania was founded at the request of the Hungarian and Romanian governments, to review the EIA Study, with focus on the project’s trans-boundary effects. In 2006, the experts concluded: the proposed project can be evaluated by the authorities.

NGI Report: The Norwegian experts conducted a risk analysis to assess the safety of the Corna Dam in the Tailings Management Facility (TMF) at Roşia Montană. The analyses looked at critical scenarios, including unusually strong earthquakes and extreme rainfalls. Report concluded in 2009: the dam is designed as one of the safest in the world.

Water Paper: „Regardless of the conditions, the risk of an accident is extremely small. The scale of toxic discharge of a plausible accident is limited and temporary. The very low risk of accidents and the definite environmental benefits of the clean-up combine to suggest an overall beneficial environmental outcome from the project.”

The study concludes: „The mining project does not contradict other projects of economic development but, on the contrary, it could act as a catalist for such projects.”
