Roşia Montană Project represents a direct investment of more than two billion dollars in the Romanian economy. In the community where it takes place, the project will have a significant economic impact, as it will create direct and indirect jobs, will open new business opportunities and make major contributions to the local and central budgets.

In order to make sure that the economic benefits of the project return to the community we belong to, we, at RMGC, have implemented a policy whereby we give preference to local suppliers. By this policy, we want to support the development of local entrepreneurs from the commune of Roşia Montană and the neighbouring communities. For example, only in 2008, the expenses on goods and services in the local community exceeded 4 million RON.

Also to support local investors, RMGC created Roşia Montană MicroCredit, a micro-finance institution intended to help local entrepreneurs. Considering the current status of the Roşia Montană Project, the activity of the MicroCredit has been temporarily suspended but will be resumed when the right moment comes.

Another important benefit of the project is job creation at the local and county level. In this area also, RMGC encourages the employment of workforce mainly from the community impacted by the project, i.e. the commune of Rosia Montana and the neighbouring areas. As the Roşia Montană Project will generate over 2,300 direct jobs in the construction phase, the benefit for the local and county community is extremely important.

Additionally, in order to make sure that the creation of new jobs will lead to considerable community benefits, RMGC organises periodical trainings for the members of the local community.

In supporting the local investors, RMGC has also created Roşia Montană MicroCredit, a micro-financing institution aimed to support entrepreneurship at the local level. However, due to the present stage of the Roşia Montană Project, the MicroCredit activity has been temporarily suspended but will be resumed when the time is right.

Another major benefit of the project is job creation at the local and county level. In this respect, we at RMGC encourage the employment of local workers, in particular from the commune of Roşia Montană and the surrounding areas. As the Rosia Montana Project will generate more than 2,300 direct jobs during the construction period, the benefits for the local and county communities are particularly important.

In order to make sure that we will bring a significant benefit to the community by creating new jobs, RMGC organizes regular vocational training courses for the members of the local community.

What does 4 billion USD mean?

The Roşia Montană Project will infuse US$4 billion into the Romanian economy, out of which:

    •    US$1.8 billion are direct benefits for the Romanian State, in the form of dividends, salary taxes, royalties and other duties
    •    US$2.2 billion spent in Romania for human resources, electricity, transportation, constructions, reagents, spare parts, etc.

In order to ensure a better understanding of the size and potential impact of these amounts, here are, for reference, some examples of how they can be used.
1.8 billion dollars may be used to:

    •    Build about 20,000 ANL (National Housing Agency) houses
    •    Build 270 km of highways, that is more than what is currently in use in Romania
    •    Build 40 municipal hospitals, each of them with more than 300 beds
    •    Build over 300 school campuses, each of them with at least 24 classrooms
    •    Build over 50 km and 40 new subway stations, which would double the current network
    •    Rehabilitate thermally over 400,000 apartments
    •    Rehabilitate over 400 km of railways.

2.2 billion dollars invested in the Romanian private sector would:

    •    Represent the equivalent of the average national salary for 300,000 persons, for one year.
    •    Represent more than double the amount of the investments made by Dacia in Romania over the last 10 years
