ISO 26000
In 2008 we adopted a new reporting framework based on key performance indicators (KPI) to improve our accountability and transparency, to provide an easy-to-understand set of data (easy to track from one year to another) and to inform and engage our stakeholders in an efficient way. In addition, this framework is a management tool which is to help us better evaluate the progress of our social and environmental initiatives, while providing consistency in communication.
The indicators are based on the upcoming ISO 26000 standard (www.iso.org), an international guide for public and private organizations. Over 400 experts from 87 countries, as well as numerous experts from world class organizations, such as the European Commission, World Health Organization, UN Development Program, Amnesty International, and various trade unions and employers’ organizations were involved in drawing up the ISO 26000 standard on Corporate Social Responsibility. Upon completion and publication, ISO 26000 will detail a series of CSR principles affecting key aspects, such as human rights, environment, labor market and consumers, fair operating practices and community involvement. This standard will provide important guidelines on the implementation of CSR principles and programs.
For three years we have been reporting on our social and environmental activities and results. During this period of time we have developed and improved our accountability and reporting approaches, in compliance with our values and beliefs. In 2006-2007 we changed our accountability approach, from “top-down” to “bottom-up”, which encourages the contribution and development of the communities, from the grass-root level. In 2007-2008 we introduced a new reporting approach, based on key performance indicators (KPI). This new approach will facilitate the timely assessment and reporting of the social and environmental progress and should provide consistency in communication.
